Job Hunting Cover Letter: Avoid these 3 Mistakes

Your first impression with an employers is essential.

So, you will want to avoid these 3 classic mistakes!

1. Not stating the exact job you seek.

While it may seem obvious to job applicants, companies are made up of many departments and e.g. many jobs.

Make sure you state right at the beginning to which job (and which department) you are sending your cover letter and resume for consideration.

2. Using boilerplate language.

Tailor your message to the employer for the specific job.

Don't  include blatant general information or terms which are not focused.

Ramblings will not reflect well on you as a serious candidate.

3. Copying your resume.

Highlight how your skills and experience help you do the job.

Information on the resume stands alone as mere facts.

Don't waste your opportunity to show how you can not only do the dream job, but how you can add to the productivity of the company overall!

Job Hunting Cover Letter: Do these 3 Hot Tips

Instead, follow these 3 tips and improve your chances to get that much-coveted interview.

1. Know your audience.

All good writers  have to keep their audience in mind.

Are you writing a manger of a department?

Will a representative from human relations receive your missive?

Or are you writing directly to the owner of a mid or small-sized firm?

The terms you use and examples will probably differ depending on the recipient.

2. Use the beginning paragraphs for background information.

Why are you writing this person? Name the job and in the next paragraph give reasons why you are the perfect candidate.

3. Use a call to action to end your letter.

Ask for the interview!

You've got great education and experience. You've communicated that to the employer.

Now, ask for the interview and wait for their reply!
